What Makes Good Event Lighting? January 23, 2020 – Posted in: Uncategorized

It goes without saying that producing an event can be a highly stressful ordeal. There are so many details to remember about the venue arrangements, catering for the event, getting an accurate headcount of how many people are coming, who is going to emcee/DJ, and many more. One of those things you don’t think about until its time is who is handling the event lightning? Is it good event lighting?

Lighting Makes The Event

It’s true, think about every event you’ve been too that was awesome and tell us that the lighting wasn’t a prominent feature of it. Lighting doesn’t have to be crazy, just well done. Whether it’s a crazy concert where there is an active light show or a corporate event where lighting is modest but effective, lighting is very important for the atmosphere of an event. That being said, what even makes lighting good?

You Can Actually See The Venue

Well, this might seem like the obvious answer, but if it was obvious then there wouldn’t be so many events where I went to the buffet section and couldn’t see what I was scooping into my plate. Understandably, if you are at a wedding indoors the lighting outside of the main stage tends to be dimmer just so the focus can be on the couple, but if it’s so dim you can barely see where you’re going then that’s an example of bad lighting. Precision is everything.

Good Event Lighting is Themed Appropriately

What is the purpose of the event? Weddings, corporate functions, birthdays, or themed parties all have very different lighting needs. If you have a one-size-fits-all lighting solution then you really just have a solution that’s not making the most out of the venue and event.

Let’s use the example of a themed party because there are a lot of cool ideas in that space. Suppose you wanted to do a theme around the holidays. Holiday work parties, in particular, are common. It’s the same in many places, the company books a venue, the venue has some stock lighting solutions that will be serviceable and the party will carry on.

However, we don’t do “stock solutions” at Get Lit Productions. When you task us to do your event lighting, you’re going to get something that will truly wow your guests. That holiday party? Wouldn’t it be a lot more in the spirit if you had the venue bathed in warm colors that evoke the season? You can make use of gobo lighting to impart shapes onto the floor and venue. In the case of our holiday party, we can have little snowflakes moving around the floor—operating out of Florida, this is as close to snow as Get Lit Productions experiences!

That is just one minor example out of the myriad of effects, designs, and combinations you can use to create atmosphere. Serious, fun, dramatic, lighting can do it all!

Good Event Lighting Starts at the Concept Stage

How many events have you been to where the lighting was actually planned out by a company? Well, if the answer is zero, let Get Lit Productions be your first!

Doing basic lighting isn’t too much to ask for, but if you want something unique and interesting that will be engaging as well as appropriate to the event, it’s best to consult with a lighting company that has ensured the success of many events for over a decade. Yes, we’re talking about us.

When you partner with Get Lit Productions for your event lighting needs, we’ll take you through 3 important steps.

  1. Designing the lighting – While we have had clients that just wanted us to “wing it” because they are repeat customers and trust us to the utmost, many clients want to dictate some aspects of the lighting—and that’s perfectly fine! We’ll collaborate and discuss your lighting needs while offering our personal consultation which is based on a combined 24+ years of event lighting.
  2. Execution – Okay, so the details are all worked out. Now there’s the matter of executing it while minimizing the presence of lighting equipment. Good event lighting looks like it just exists. We’ll go over the floor plan with you so we know where equipment can and cannot be for the safety and comfort of your guests.
  3. Results –Thankfully, we work in a business that is very visually oriented. What’s the point in making promises in when the results speak for themselves? Check out our gallery of prior events we’ve done and you’ll see we’re very passionate about this lighting business.
